It also plays a lot on your emotions and psyche. Unfortunately, it makes you vulnerable to mistakes you would not do otherwise.

Time and again we have seen con-men appear in different parts of the world, who try to act like absolutely professional recruiters. They offer a job opportunity that will sound absolutely convincing and very appealing. Some would sound too good to be true. And, THAT should be your alarm bell. If it sounds too good, then there are strong chances that it may be untrue.

While there are few exceptions, legitimate recruiters and employers do not charge anything to the job seekers. They make good money from the employers. So much so, that agencies in UAE who used to charge a nominal Dhs 15-50.00 (US$ 4.10 - US$13.70 approx) as documentation charges were also barred by the government from charging such fees.

But, on the net we keep coming across con-men who would pitch high and hard with amazing job opportunities in fabled industries (shipping / cruise / oil & gas, etc.), and in popular job markets (Dubai / Malaysia, etc.). If you play along carefully, you will eventually notice that they will ask for a payment. Smart operators will start with some very nominal amount under the pretext of documentation charges. Once you have done that, then they have got you "trapped". They will then ask for a second amount which could be a higher then the first one. And this would continue until YOU get wake up and stop paying any further.

People who pay the first time, continue with further payments because they don't want to previous payments to be wasted. And of course, the con-men will play with words to psyche you into the fear that if you don't make the next payment, and within the given period then everything you have done so far will be lost.

Here at GulfJobSites.com and WorldJobSites.com, we "try" to screen entries which have any shed of uncertainty. However, given our very limited resources, we can not get into a detailed scrutiny of each entry that comes in for a listing. However, if any volunteers would like to come forward and help us in this, we would certainly welcome them.
After all, its all one big community effort.

So, as a rule, when applying for jobs, be it online or offline, if the recruiter asks for money, you should get cautious.
Employers pay the recruiters for their services, therefore there is no real need for charging the job seekers.
Find out more about them. Enquire from others who have used them with positive results.
But don't ask the recruiter for references, because, surely, if they are con-men, the references they will provide would be well trained and probably well paid.

And, finally our appeal for help:
We have some ready-to-use pinups and pass-it-ons that you can print, photocopy and circulate in your neighborhood, to your colleagues and club-members, at your place of worship, practically everywhere.

Download Pinup, Download Pass-it- ons.

Good Luck with your job search.

Raza Jaffri
Editor
GulfJobSites.com: Gulf's Top Jobs Portal
WorldJobSites.com: Building World's Largest Jobs Directory

Interested in working in Saudi Arabia?

Many people think of Saudi Arabia as a closed, extremely conservative country where they would never imagine going and living. But if you ask those who have worked in Saudi Arabia for sometime, they will tell you that the benefits are no less either.

Experienced Gulf expats will tell you that Saudi Arabia is still one of the most cost-effective place to work. If your objective is to go to the Gulf, work there for few years, save a bundle of cash and then return home, then Saudi Arabia is the definite choice.

The life there may not be as colourful as Dubai, and they may not have a country-side as scenic and varied as Oman, but it has a mood very much of its own. Saudis, much like Americans, like to think BIG in everything. Therefore you will find everything, every place with huge spaces. Claustrophobia is difficult to find in Saudi Arabia. And, yes, if you are a Muslim, then what better place to and work.

Unlike some other places in the Gulf, you should not think of Saudi Arabia as a long term / life-long destination. Saudi government has an aggressive policy of inducting the national workforce in the mainstream. Therefore many expats who had been working in cushy, "secure" job for many years suddenly found out one day that they were being asked to train a local graduate who will then take over his position after few months or so.

While it was traumatizing for those individuals, I believe that, like every human, Saudis have a right to be given preference in their home country. Therefore the new, educated Saudi workforce is becoming more and more visible. My advice for the expats: Don't fret. Face the reality. Its easier when you are expecting it. Don't plan a lifetime employment in Saudi Arabia. Go there, make good money, enjoy fancy vacations or use the savings for building your assets in your home country. Plan your return or next destination in advance, and then move on.

Click here to browse the current jobs in Saudi Arabia

BUT, THESE ARE NOT ALL THE JOBS!

Click here to browse the directory of websites featuring jobs in Saudi Arabia.

And, finally our appeal for help:
We have some ready-to-use pinups and pass-it-ons that you can print, photocopy and circulate in your neighbourhood, to your colleagues and club-members, at your place of worship, practically everywhere.

Download Pinup, Download Pass-it- ons.

Good Luck with your job search.

Raza Jaffri
Editor
GulfJobSites.com: Gulf's Top Jobs Portal
WorldJobSites.com: Building World's Largest Jobs Directory

Why WorldJobSites.com is different?

After the success of the Gulf region's largest and most popular jobs directory, GulfJobSites.com, Aarknet now brings you WorldJobSites.com.
http://www.worldjobsites.com

Pilot tested as JobSearchFAST, WorldJobSites.com is building the world's largest jobs directory and aims to cover all countries and all professions around the world. In WorldJobSites.com you will find links to job websites from your own country as well as in countries where you wish to go and work.

It is hugely different from the typical job websites like Monster, CareerBuilder, Yahoo HotJobs, etc. because they only tell you about the jobs companies have posted with them and paid them for it. WorldJobSites.com, on the other hand, tells you about ALL the job websites that cover a particular country or profession. This means your chances are not limited to the vacancies listed on a particular website. It tells you where to see next!

WorldJobSites.com also contains a comprehensive directory of Immigration Consultants that specialize in the most popular migration destinations.

WorldJobSites.com is expanding rapidly, so make sure you bookmark it and visit often to see the latest additions and where to look for a job. Also, don't forget to join their mailing list.
http://www.worldjobsites.com
WorldJobSites.com - Building the world's largest jobs directory.

Good Luck!

Raza Jaffri
Editor
GulfJobSites.com: Gulf's Top Jobs Portal
WorldJobSites.com: Building world's largest jobs directory

WJS-GJS Newsletter: Information Technology Jobs: Are you
 looking at the right places?

Editor's Note

Each time I send a newsletter, my inbox is flooded with mail. Bounced mails; Thank you mails; Auto-replies; Even few unpleasant emails. Now you may wonder who would be sending the unpleasant emails... well its obviously those who have been job-hunting but unsuccessful. And therefore, frustrated. They would blame the system, the society, the internet, even volunteer efforts like ours.

I only ask one question: Are you working HARD, or working SMART at your job hunting? If you are working hard, then the chances are that you will get tired, exhausted, and possibly frustrated. If you are working smart, then you probably wont remain a "job-seeker" for too long.

And that brings us to the article of this newsletter...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Featured Article:
Information Technology Jobs: Are you looking at the right places?
What is your job search strategy? Do you have a daily target to achieve? A daily target of :
how many people to contact,
how many resumes to send,
how many sources to tap,
how many new networks to probe,
and even
how many new websites to scan and explore?
Most people don't work that way. They feel that since they are unemployed, they have all the time in the world. On the other hand, the passive job-seekers (people who are already employed and simply looking for a better job) are often in no hurry either because they know there is pay-cheque at the end of the month.
First of all, you should have a check-list, no matter you are an active or passive job-seeker. And you should regularly critique your job hunting performance.
I will now cut the chase and come to the focus of this article: Information Technology jobs.
IT jobs were probably the first ones to take maximum advantage of the internet and therefore there is a huge number of websites that focus on IT jobs. Plus there are tons of mailing lists / discussion groups / list-serv / yahoo groups and communities that also aggressively pass-on and circulate IT jobs information around the world.
What does all this mean?
It means if you are looking for a job in the Information technology sector, then you just can not justify to your dad that you are really working hard on your job hunt by simply reading the local newspapers, or perhaps the major job boards like Monster and Yahoo HotJobs.
You need to go beyond them.
http://www.gulfjobsites.com/jobs/Profession_Specific/IT_Jobs/
This section of the directory contains, hold your breath, 383, yes sir, three-hundred-eighty-three websites that cover IT jobs. Can you believe that? Even if you take a pessimistic approach and say that each "website" only contains 10 IT jobs then that comes to 3,830. Surely the total number would be probably 10x or even 100x.
So friends, I leave you with this category and insist, no, I beg you, not to rely on just one website, or one source of information. Just like you are out there hunting for a job, trust me, there are thousands of employers and recruiters desperately looking for folks like you.
So go get them!
http://www.gulfjobsites.com/jobs/Profession_Specific/IT_Jobs/
Good Luck with your job search.
Raza Jaffri
Editor
GulfJobSites.com: Gulf's Top Jobs Portal
WorldJobSites.com: Building World's Largest Jobs Directory
Dubai jobs, Jobs in Dubai, Decision-Making: Thinking Out of
 the Box
Editor's Note
Ah, lovely Dubai.
Dubai has been my second home town for over a decade. And believe me, this place practically grows on you. You could almost call it addiction. You get so habitual of this lifestyle that even if you make an attempt to go and live somewhere else after spending few years in Dubai you keep missing it like an old friend! It grows on you in such a way that you don't even realise until you travel. And then you want to return to Dubai quickly. This issue we focus on UAE and its job opportunities. Thanks to its fame and attraction, a very open environment, ultra-modern infrastructure, very high level of security, the job market has become extremely competitive and job-seekers arrive here by the thousands, every week. The commercial activity is so fast-paced here that you need to be constantly in touch with the latest in your field. In recent years Dubai introduced the free-hold property option for the expats. This triggered a "gold rush" which has only kept growing and expanding with each year. Literally sky is the limit here! With the "Burj Dubai" project already announced as the World's Tallest building, and literally enclaves after enclaves of innovative developments, the opportunities are coming up at mind boggling speed. For instance, Emaar has recently signed up with Georgio Armani to bring Armani Hotels and Resorts to this region. And its not just for Construction Workers, but everyone else as well. If you are an IT Networks specialist then your skill is needed for networking these ultra-high-tech towers. If you are a Photographer them there is a growing need for Tourism related stock photography. If you are a banker, banks are expanding their networks and services, and service hours. I have not seen 8AM to 8PM regular customer service timings at a bank anywhere else. New, world class hospitals are coming up. Entertainment multiplexes are already here. Where will the secretaries, sales people, surgeons, swimming pool technicians, skyscraper window cleaners and a whole lot more come from to feed the appetite of this economy on the move? Hope you get the picture! This is one of the reasons UAE also has one of the highest number of recruitment agencies.
In short, dear readers, Dubai is the place where it is happening. And in a big way. So click here for jobs in Dubai and the rest of the United Arab Emirates. See you soon.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Featured Article:

Decision Making: Thinking Out of the Box
by Author Unknown

Many articles have been circulating on the emails for sometime. But once in a while comes along a real gem. This is one of them:

Imagine this ...

You are driving along in your car on a wild, stormy night, it's raining heavily, when suddenly you pass by a bus stop, and you see three people waiting for a bus:

1. An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

2. An old friend who once saved your life.

3. The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Which one would you choose to offer a ride to, knowing very well that there could only be one passenger in your car?
Think before you continue reading...

::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::

This is a moral/ethical dilemma that was once actually used as part of a job application.

* You could pick up the old lady, because she is going to die, and thus you should save her first;

* or you could take the old friend because he once saved your life, and this would be the perfect chance to pay him back.

* However, you may never be able to find your perfect mate again.

The candidate who was hired (out of 200 applicants) had no trouble coming up with his answer. Guess what was his answer?

::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::
::::::::::

He simply answered: "I would give the car keys to my Old friend and let him take the lady to the hospital. I would stay behind and wait for the bus with the partner of my dreams."

Sometimes, we gain more if we are able to give up our stubborn thought limitations. Never forget to "Think Outside of the Box."

So what was yours ?????

US Immigration, Better Resumes, What Not to Put on Your Resume

Editor's Note
Do you want US immigration?

This issue the focus is on immigration. No matter who may be the President or what their policies may be, somehow the appeal of US immigration will probably never diminish. Under the Immigration Consultants Category we have organised listings by Country with new listings, including 2 interesting new listings under USA: "INS Experts" and "American Immigration Network". These people provide US immigration related services and guidance at a fraction of the cost that a typical attorney would charge.

On a different note, sometimes alliances are more practical then doing everything yourself. Few months ago we started offering resume writing services. When we started this we never realized the load and requests we would receive. So much so that we could not entertain each and every applicant. Therefore, to serve you better, we have partnered with one of the top notch resume writing service that has highly experienced and qualified resume writers working full time only for this purpose. ResumeEdge.com is our new partner that ensures quality and prompt delivery of your rehashed resumes. Click here to visit their site.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Featured Article:
What Not to Put on Your Resume
by Susan Dunn, MA, The EQ Coach
"Should I admit a weakness?" one of my coaching clients asked me. "Something tells me I shouldn't."
"Something" was telling her right. Your best tool in writing a good resume, is your intuition, or common sense aka Emotional Intelligence.
WEAKNESSES
Don't talk about your "weaknesses" unless you're asked. In my years as a Career Counselor for college students, I received fledgling resumes that read "I don't like people" or "I hate talking on the phone." On the one hand, such statements of extremes are rarely true, and on the other hand they are open to gross misinterpretation.
How do I know this? First-hand, of course, the way hard lessons are learned.
When I took my first job, I announced "I'm horrible at math." To MY horror, all work demanding "math" was removed from my desk, grossly limiting my chances for advancement, and also leaving me to puzzle how to address this situation without appearing to "Methinks the lady doth protest too much". [Shakespeare] "Wait, wait, I didn't mean I was BAD at math." And there goes my credibility. Save yourself some grief.
Later I made it through graduate statistics just fine. I had MEANT "in relation to my other skills, my math is lower, and also that I don't wake up in the morning hoping to balance someone's books." However, I've done it.
A resume is in writing and you don't get to "explain," so be conservative.
Focus on what you're good at. Extremes are rarely true. I'm thinking of the young woman who wrote on her resume, "I don't like people." Upon query, it turned out she liked ME, and I like to consider myself a person, doncha know. She didn't like a CERTAIN KIND OF PERSON, which could be said of us all, and her gross generalization didn't hold up under scrutiny. However, scrutiny is not what you'll get from the recruiter who looks at your resume. What you'll get is the roundfile.
So, unless you're in a specialty so in demand you can apply with a bone in your nose (as one young male client told me back in the days when his field was, yes, desperately in demand), avoid leading with the "bone in your nose."
The "bone in your nose" is also anything that will elicit a possibly negative reaction from the hirer. If you can put "president of a political organization" instead of "president of the young republicans," this is better. Better yet put "president of an organization with 500 members". (They will ask you about this, but talking allows more latitude.) You can also leave it off. If you put that you volunteer for the young republics, you stand the chance of alienating a percentage of your reviewers, depending upon their political beliefs, and how "open" they are to people in the opposing camps.
Avoid such statements as "I study metaphysics," or "I'm a born again Christian." Why? Because they aren't pertinent to your ability to do the job. When you do bring it up, it can open a can of worms, i.e., "Well do you hire people according to their astrological chart?"
Talk to your broadest audience. For hobbies, put "working out" rather than "Chi Gong," and "music" rather than "rap music".
If you're asked to reveal your weaknesses, use your head. Here are some suggestions:
When applying for a high-stress unpredictable job, "My love of variety, though in a job like this that might come in handy."
When applying for an accounting job, "My need for things to be exact and attention to detail. I want everything to be right."
When applying as a paralegal, "Creativity. I like things structured, to know what I'm supposed to be doing and to do it."
When applying for a position where there's been lots of turnover, "One weakness I have is that I like to stay in one position and not job hop. I tend to take a position and stay there."
When applying to work at a children's shelter, "My weakness is kids."
IN PROCESS
Present a weakness as "in process," i.e., "In moving into management, I've realized becoming an excellent manager is a lifelong proposition, and I'm always eager to strengthen my skills."
Other suggestions (in an organization large enough to offer training):
Cold calls. Do you have training in this?
Computer skills. Seems like there's always something new I want to learn.
Excel. Haven't had the opportunity to use it much.
Trade shows. Will I get a chance to learn this?
There's no reason to serve up your weakness without a little whipped cream on top!
AVOID SAYING:
I've been told that I'm weak at managing people .
I'm hopeless on the telephone .
My last boss said I wasn't good at .
LIKE EVERYONE ELSE .
You can also use phrases such as
Like most people who work for nonprofits, I'm sometimes too soft-hearted.
Because of my military career, I'll need to learn some new vocabulary.
PUT SOME THINGS EASILY REMEDIABLE
PowerPoint. Never had access to it.
Public speaking. Have only given about 10 speeches.
Grant management, financial. The last place I worked, the bookkeeper did that.
Keyboard speed.
Training others. Would love to learn more.
Making sales calls. My partner did that.
SELF AWARENESS
When you're asked about your strengths and weaknesses, it's also to find out how much you know about yourself.
In an interview to become a Development Officer, I was asked why they should consider me when I hadn't done it before. I replied with the proven strengths I had that would transfer and that showed my ability to learn and then said, "This job would put me on my growing edge. That's why I want it." I got the job.
Saying it's on your growing edge shows many things, including the fact that you have one, and that's something of great value to most employers - someone who's willing and eager to learn new things, welcomes challenges and is resilience.
AUTHENTICITY
If you don't want a job requiring that you make cold calls, stick with it. If you refuse to learn yet another computer program, say so. If you don't want to be a manager, say so and eliminate the possibility they'll be grooming you for a management position.
But if you don't intend to work for a woman/man/star-bellied sneech again, look at it this way. If you put this on your resume, first of all it throws up a flag - "And what else will he refuse to do? He's too picky, too opinionated."
And secondly, why eliminate yourself out the starting gate? You could be offered a job meeting your requirements. Remember, you're always free to refuse a job that's offered, but you're never free to accept one that isn't.
LYING
Don't. Don't misrepresent yourself - your degrees, your former jobs, or anything else. It's not the right thing to do, and it also can damage you in your field, because people talk.
Emotional Intelligence is about Intentionality, Personal Power, thinking ahead, putting yourself in the other person's place, and not shooting yourself in the foot.
Copyright Susan Dunn, MA, The EQ Coach, http://www.susandunn.cc . Editor's Note
2. Article: Intuition: The Secret to Your Career Success
3. Help Needed
1. Editor's Note
How would you like to build an international career? A career that can put a Foreign Service professional's career to shame? A career that can take you to countries you never thought possible?
Recently, while working on the expansion of the Professional section I noticed one such career. And most surprisingly, it requires a skill that is already available to many of us.
The knowledge of English language.
If you can read, write and communicate in correct English, that is already half the skill. Teaching of English as a Foreign or Second Language is a field that is growing and has tremendous growth potential around the world. The English as a Foreign Language category directly focuses on websites from around the world that feature vacancies and employment opportunities for teaching of English language. If you can acquire the skill of "teaching" English as a second language then there are openings around the world. Hey, what's the harm in exploring this profession, even though you may have an MBBS, or an ACCA or perhaps a BE degree. If nothing else, this could be a nice change from the work you have been doing all these time.
Think about it, and check out the opportunities.
Bon Voyage! Don't forget to send a picture post card!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. Featured Article:

Intuition: The Secret to Your Career Success
Michelle L. Casto, M.Ed.

For far too long, we moderns have relied on our analytical/logical brain to make important life decisions. It is my belief that our imaginative/creative brain holds the key to better, smarter and more soulful decisions. This is because the right side of the brain, which loves creativity---taps into your intuitive nature. Take your career for instance. How could following your intuition make you more successful? Because you will be following your true internal compass---one that leads you to the best career and a more fulfilled life.

The word intuition means "in to you" in Latin. Florence Scovel, a theologian, once said, "Intuition is the spiritual faculty that doesn't explain; it seemingly points the way." It's also been said that intuition is your divine Spirit talking to you. If we stop for a moment and acknowledge this, we realize the incredible perspective we have. Unfortunately, this is a perspective we often choose to ignore because it is an undeveloped skill. Using your intuition when making important decisions allows you to move along your career path easily and effortlessly. You don't have to struggle and worry, because things fall naturally into place when you follow your inner nature. Developing your intuitive guidance (your inner voice) is essential to smart decision-making and career choices, and includes balancing your cognitive (thinking) abilities with your affective (feeling) abilities. Synthesize information from your head and your heart, and bring them into your consciousness. You only have to learn how to develop these powers and I promise that it will become second nature to you. The first step is obviously to become aware that you contain this amazing power. But you must consciously choose to use it!

Next, you have to realize that when dealing with matters of work, there can be some discrepancies between what the mind thinks and what the heart feels. When we think about work, we focus on what we should do so that we can pay the bills, etc., which only takes into account the practical side. When we feel about work, we focus on what we want to do and consider the impractical, such as moving to a foreign country. We very rarely take the time to see how the two sides can meet and form a whole new possibility. When making a major life decision, such as, "What should I do as my life's work?" it is pretty safe to say that our equilibrium is all out of whack. And we tend to do one of two things: We either throw out all rational behavior altogether or block any and all emotions from our consciousness. We need to learn to align these two extremes, balance them, and make decisions from a true state of knowing, which is our intuition. You can learn to take these two seemingly opposing faculties and fuse them to have singleness of purpose and direction.

The best way to do this is to be clear on what you are looking for from your career, so that you can then allow your intuitive nature to take over. The key is to believe that your higher self sees what is best for you. Indeed, Spirit is trying to send you messages, but you must learn to open up and receive the information in order for it to make a difference in your life. Once you have learned to have faith in this process, your heart and mind will function together for greater harmony than you ever dreamed possible. By following your intuition, you become empowered. When you are empowered, you trust that you know the right thing to do -- despite what other people might say. You look within yourself for direction.

Dis-empowered people look for answers outside of themselves. They turn to others to find the answers to their life, and thus become confused and often misguided. Confused people are easy to spot---they tend to change their minds almost on a daily basis. It stands to reason that if you are dis-empowered and confused, you will not be making decisions with clarity and focus.

If you are like most people, you prefer one faculty (thinking or feeling) over the other. People tend to use the one they are most comfortable with, but sometimes it is necessary to look at the situation through your "weaker" one.

You are Head Strong if you typically:
· Over-analyze people, things, and situations
· Consider the practical side of the issue
· Rationalize your behavior to yourself and to others
· Consider yourself first in situations
· Prefer thinking over feeling
· Ignore feelings contrary to your thinking when making decisions
· Hide your emotions
· Like to plan ahead
· Like to be in control
· Use the word NO a lot

You are Heart Strong if you typically:
· Are sensitive and emotional
· Consider the impractical side of the issue
· Feel things in the pit of your stomach
· Consider others first in situations
· Prefer feeling over thinking
· Ignore thoughts contrary to your feelings when making decisions
· Show your emotions
· Like to go with the flow
· Like to make others feel good
· Use the word YES a lot

Both are ways of "sensing," but in order to be a more effective decision-maker, you need to use them in conjunction. On occasion, it may be more appropriate to listen with your heart, as it will provide the direction that you need to go. Other times, you may find that tapping into your head can save you from making "miss-takes" in your career. The key is to pick up on coincidences, signs, and other external messages by filtering them through both faculties to get the most accurate "reading." The real secret to intuitive guidance is to let your inner soul be your guide.

Michelle L. Casto, M.Ed. is a whole life coach, speaker, and author.
