The Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone was established in the year 2000 as part of realising Dubai's vision to transform itself into a knowledge economy. Established as a tax-free commercial free zone, the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone is today the largest fully managed free zone in the world for knowledge-based companies. It is a self-funded, autonomous organization empowered by the Government of Dubai and is responsible for managing the three individual knowledge-industry clusters: Dubai Internet City for information and communications technology (ICT) companies, Dubai Media City for media companies and Knowledge Village for knowledge-focused companies.
