The Dubai Biotechnology & Research Park will be the centre of excellence in biotechnology, bridging research, education, and industry through national and international collaboration. The Dubai Biotechnology & Research Park (DuBiotech) was launched by HH General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and UAE Minister of Defence, as part of Dubais 2010 vision to establish a knowledge based economy. Biotechnology is thriving and has thus been identified by the Government of Dubai as a major target area for economic development. In keeping with this vision, DuBiotech promises to be the regional centre of excellence for biotechnology. The Park will service the entire industry, ranging from small incubators to regional offices of key biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, to manufacturing plants. DuBiotech will have a regulatory framework, modeled on international best-practices. With this regulatory framework in place, all activities related to biotech development will be overseen and monitored, to ensure health & safety and streamlined operations for the park. In addition, a Steering Committee made up of prominent regional and international scientists will offer guidance to DuBiotech. The Committee will facilitate full regional involvement and provide direction to ensure that in this fast-paced industry, DuBiotech is able to respond to all changes in the most appropriate manner.

11. Dubai Knowledge Village

Dubai Knowledge Village (KV) is a vibrant, connected learning community that will develop the regions talent pool and accelerate its move to the knowledge economy. An independent free zone authority created by the Government of Dubai and chaired by HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, Wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of UAE, Ruler of Dubai, IHC consolidates Dubai as an essential link in the humanitarian value chain. Leveraging the proven Dubai free zone model, IHC addresses the specific needs of the humanitarian aid and development community, while grouping them in a secure environment that fosters partnerships, social responsibility and global change. By co-locating, non-profit and commercial entities are encouraged to share best practices to increase their operational efficiencies and improve institutional learning. More than 55 organisations and commercial companies are currently registered with IHC. IHC is a non-religious, non-political and non-profit organisation. Humanitarian news, special events, volunteer appeals and job openings are regularly posted on the IHC website.
