COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Shell companies have been exploring for and producing hydrocarbons for over a century. Today, Exploration & Production (EP) employs some 17,500 people and a further 10,000 contractors worldwide and has interests in ventures in 38 different countries. This is a technically challenging work environment characterized by research and the pursuit of new ways of working. It demands people who will thrive in a culture that encourages and rewards innovation, collaboration and the ability to learn from success as well as failure. We have a vacancy in The Sultanate of Oman for a Senior Well Engineer with significant experience in well design and well construction supervision, and substantial experience in applying performance improvement techniques in the well engineering arena. This is an outstanding opportunity for a successful and innovative senior technical professional to add value at all stages of the well delivery process, in a dynamic and performance-focused organization. Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) is the major exploration and production company in the Sultanate. It accounts for about 90% of the country's crude-oil production and nearly all of its natural-gas supply. The first economic find of oil was made in 1962, and the first consignment of oil was exported in 1967.

Purpose
To develop the functional specifications for a fleet of fit-for-purpose rigs to drill standardized wells in the South of Oman, following through to implementation by coordinating the contracting and procurement process. Also to define, develop and quantify a different (wells) operating model framework through new commercial strategies, contractual procedures and operating practices to further enhance the capability to deliver under lower unit activity costs.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities :
Your primary responsibilities will be to identify opportunities for cost savings and ensuring that these are applied to full advantage through rationalization/standardization, improved (rig) specifications, and adopting enhanced commercial strategies and operational practices. Areas you will be expected to cover include:
  • Rationalizing and standardizing current well-types and designs.
  • Defining fit-for-purpose rig functional specifications.
  • Delivering economically robust rig contracting strategies.
  • Coordinating contracting and procurement (C&P) activities for delivery of several fit-for-purpose rigs (up to 8).

Special Challenges: You will be expected to make a significant contribution to cost savings while maintaining technical excellence and ensuring the base plan is delivered. You will be a key "change agent" for initiatives such as wells portfolio segmentation (a core strategy to reduce well costs going forward). You will be a prime driver for change in well engineering, working with Global/Regional Supply Chain initiatives and operating practices. The challenge is high, but the anticipated change benefit if realized could be significant, not just within PDO but in other brown-field developments in the Shell Group

At this time the position has no direct staff reports, but will involve coordinating support efforts from part time operational and commercial staff.

REQUIRED SKILLS:
Requirements :
For your application to be successful you will need to possess at least a higher education Diploma (eg. HND or equivalent). A Bachelors Degree or higher, in a technical or engineering subject is prefered.

You must have at least 5 years experience in Well Engineering covering roles in well design, and operations supervision. Competence in the core well engineering areas and integrated activity planning is considered essential, as well as a strong understanding of the EP business. Your application will be given preference if you can demonstrate previous interfacing with, or some experience in, the subsurface disciplines (geology, reservoir engineering, petrophysics) and completions design/operations supervision. We expect your further recent experiences to include significant support to Well Engineering, covering commercial optimization (contracts and/or supply chain), technical improvements (standards, specifications and processes), and business and management control processes. You will need to demonstrate a heightened sense of reality where commercial opportunities, local sensitivities, and technical requirements are forced to merge. We expect you to have a strong track-record in these areas delivered through out-of-the-box thinking and a can-do attitude.

You will have excellent people skills and a high level of personal integrity. You're a team player with a reputation for innovation, effective communication, and the ability to capture and cascade best practices.
